TwH's Main Page
Welcome to TwH's web site. Most of what I've been doing online can be found in the links on the left - my blog, Alyssa's adoption blog, my wiki and the family photo gallery. I won't update this page too frequently, except to add favorite pictures of Jessie and Alyssa now and then.
Let me explain a bit more about how I view the various components of this web site.
- First, the blogs. I plan on using them to talk about my current
activities. Basically a plan for what I'm doing with short descriptions. Blogs
tend to be temporal, time-based and are a great tool to highlight daily,
weekly activities.
- The wiki, on the other hand, will be reserved for more in-depth work. In
the wiki, I plan on spending more time developing a complete description of
activities -- something that others can use as a reference or a guide. I've
seen wikis referred to a place where articles of 'enduring value' are placed.
I'm not so sure about 'enduring,' but I think you get the picture.
- And of course, the photo gallery is just for fun. A place to post photos,
mostly of the girls for all to see. It's a way for us to stay in touch with
family and friends who live far away.
The big question is what kind of info am I going to be putting in these various locations. Well, as you can probably assume, I'll be dealing mostly with computer topics, various aspects of the technologies that I'm working with.
- At this time, I anticipate that I will chronicle my efforts to learn
Linux, especially Linux Debian. I'm determined to become much more
knowledgeable about Linux and find that writing about all of the things that
I've done and learned is a great way to reinforce my learning. It also gives
me a ready reference so when I forget something that I've done, I have a place
to refer to. Additionally, I hope that my efforts in making this info
available online may help others who are looking for solutions to similar
problems that I faced.
- Besides Linux, I also hope to delve more deeply into web page development,
including some basic graphic work. This won't be great detail, but enough for
people like me who want to produce their own web pages and want to know more
about the fundamentals behind web page development. It would be easier and
probably much quicker to use web development software, but that would take all
the fun out of it and would leave me with a web page in which I wouldn't have
the foggiest idea how the various components work. I prefer to spend more time
and have a better understanding of the underlying software and techlology.
- I'd also like to put down some very basic ideas on personal investment.
Most of this will not be anything new or original, but rather just a place to
gather thoughts and concepts that I've collected over the years. Again, I hope
that others may find this a useful resource and put it to good use.
That's it in a nutshell. As you can probably tell, for me most of the fun will be doing the work and understanding how to use the software and technology.
