Purpose

Let me explain briefly why I chose to write about retirement investing. It is a topic that has been covered in many other books and articles, written by authors with extensive experience in financial planning and investing. Some very popular books on this topic have even spent months on best seller lists. Yet, we are constantly reminded how low the savings rate is in the US and how woefully unprepared for retirement so many of us are. [add some statistics here]. Despite all the information and knowledge that surrounds us, we still aren’t doing enough to save and invest.

To me, a primary causes of this phenomenon is that we just don’t know how easy it is to develop and maintain a successful retirement investment portfolio. We are bombarded with thousands of choices: Which broker is best? Which mutual fund should I buy? What should I do with my 401k? This abundance of selection creates the illusion of complexity and far too often paralyzes us into doing nothing.

Over the years I’ve been able to build a sufficient retirement portfolio through patient and regular investing. I planned my retirement using online tools and invested in no-load mutual funds without the aid of a stock broker or financial advisor. Since I’ve put my plan in place, I spend only a few hours each year fine tuning it. With a steady plan and a solid strategy, I can relax knowing that I’ve made sound investment decisions that will insure the financial well being of my family and me for the rest of our lives.

This is a really great feeling and I want you to have that same feeling. That is the main reason I’m writing on retirement planning and investing. Because I want to show you that planning, saving and investing for your own retirement is not difficult. I want you to realize that a few well-spent hours each year will set you and your family on the path to life long financial security
